When I first encountered the Crow Tarot deck, I was drawn by its unique blend of dark elegance and raw symbolism. For intuitive readers like myself, finding a tarot deck that speaks both visually and spiritually can be a challenge. This tarot deck offers a fresh perspective that balances mystery with clarity, making it a compelling choice for tarot reading enthusiasts.

Who Would Benefit

Those who feel a deep kinship with the Crow and Raven in all their knowing, watchful glory - readers who love the Rider Waite Smith roots but want their familiar guide reimagined with talons, feathers and a sharp, discerning eye. A wonderful deck for those who appreciate a bird's-eye view of any situation.

What I Loved

MJ has captured something truly alive in this deck - those all-knowing eyes and iridescent feathers carry across every card, from the Major Arcana right through to the Pips, making each one feel inhabited and watchful. The Crow doesn't just illustrate the Tarot; it embodies it. There's a presence here that is hard to put down.

Opportunities & Challenges

In my experience, this deck truly earns its place as a companion in multi-deck readings - where the Crow steps in not as the lead voice, but as the one who surfaces the undertone. It cuts through to the quiet thread running beneath the heart of a layout and brings that clarity forward. If you honour the Rider Waite Smith tradition and feel called to the Crow, this is your deck.

Worth noting that some of the darker Wand and Sword cards call for a second look, especially early on - the rich tones MJ works with can blur the line between suits until your eye adjusts. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it does ask for a little patience in those first readings.

Card Quality & Handling

Card Stock & Feel

Top quality stock and smooth to the touch. ⭐⭐⭐

Print Quality & Colour

Some of the minor arcana darker cards are difficult to differentiate — worth knowing going in. ⭐

Card Size & Handling

A good size for shuffling and presenting in a layout. ⭐

Notes on Card Quality

MJ's art style is uniquely energetic - layered and alive in a way that reveals something new every time you sit with it.

No two readings with this deck ever feel the same, even years in. For intuitive readers, this is a real gift; the cards don't spell it out, they nudge you and that nudge is often exactly what's needed to find the undertone sitting at the centre of a reading.

The Guidebook
